Kentucky Genealogical Society
The Kentucky Genealogical Society has decided, with regret, to cancel the Saturday, 14 March 2020 program, "Researching Your Irish and Scots-Irish Roots."

The Kentucky Genealogical Society is a completely volunteer-run, grassroots, 501(c)3 non-profit organization, and our volunteer leaders
have been monitoring COVID-19 hour by hour. While we have passionate volunteers, we have no staff, and everything we do is accomplished through the kindness of our member volunteers.

At this point, we believe the risk is just too high that one person infected with COVID-19 could possibly infect everyone in the
Brown-Forman Room, where the all-day program was scheduled to take place. While we had a number of protocols in place to mitigate against the spread of the virus, the risk to the health of our members and guests is too great to proceed.

We did not make this decision lightly. The representatives from the Ulster Foundation are in the United States from Belfast on their tour,
and we are the second of their scheduled workshops to cancel so far. Our small organization began planning this program two years ago and will lose a considerable amount of money by canceling Saturday's program, but we want to do what is in the best interest of
public safety.

We are attempting to organize a virtual program of the lectures. If that is possible, you will receive an email with information on how to view the programs from the comfort of your home on your own schedule.

We are donating to area food banks and charities all of the food our caterer was preparing for the Saturday event.

If you were a registered participant in Saturday's program and require a refund for your program registration, please send an email to with the subject line of REFUND REQUEST. One of our volunteers will process your refund as soon as possible. It
may take some time for us to process the refund because it is a manual process. If you do not require a refund, thank you for your donation in support of the Kentucky Genealogical Society and understanding of the situation.

COVID-19 will likely impact a number of our planned in-person programs in the months to come and the extent of this is unknown at this time. We will share more information about future programs on our website and on social media as it becomes available.

Thank you for caring enough about your ancestors to want to learn more about them and how to find them. Bluegrass roots are what bind all of us together as members of the genealogical community.

Kind regards,
Christopher Padgett
